ven pongal
ingredients
- Raw rice - 3/4 cup
- Green gram - 1/4 cup
- Pepper - 1/2 tsp.
- Cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp.
- Ginger - a bit
- Cashew nut - 4
- Water - 2 cups
- Ghee - 2 to 3 tbl. sp.
- Salt - 1/2 tsp.
method of preparation
- In 2 cups of water cook rice and dhal together with salt in a pressure cooker.
- Cook until very soft.
- Powder pepper and cumin seeds very coarsely.(just break into one or two)
- Chop ginger. Break cashewnuts. Fry then.
- Just when they become golden brown, add powdered pepper, cumin seeds and ginger.
- Fry for a while. Remove from fire.
- Add to cooked rice an dhal. Mix well.
- Keep on a low fire and stir well. Remove after 5 minutes.
- This ven pongal can be served with coconut chutney and brinjal kosthu.
